Tak Revival: First Step of the Journey
Whether you live in a metropolis or a small town, a living area is prone to natural decline without maintaining societal and economic dynamics. A diminishing birthrate, people moving away, low local spending, lack of infrastructure and community, or even natural disasters—these are some factors that contribute to the fading life of a town.
Despite Tak’s strategic location as the midway point between Bangkok and the north, and its position on the western border with Myanmar, it is considered a “secondary city” in terms of tourism and economic growth. San Fun Group has been operating businesses in Tak for at least 10 years and sees Tak’s potential to be more than just a pitstop, but a calm city with unique local culture and nature.
Based on various case studies of town revitalization (such as the Japanese machiokoshi 町おこし), San Fun Group has initiated projects within its hotel, Vanasin Residence, that aim toward a larger town revitalization in the future. In December 2024, Vanasin Residence partnered with local food vendors to bring fresh local specialties to guests every morning. The dishes include locally sourced organic eggs, juicy grilled pork from Moo Ni Tum Yok Thad, various baked goods from Ton Hoo Kwang Bakery, and spicy beef broth with a house-special makrut lime dipping sauce from Khao Kha Wua Mueang Tak.
Other upcoming initiatives include upcycling discarded teak wood harvested from our own farm into souvenirs (Tak is known for producing exceptional teak wood), creating a multilingual tourism website, and developing land for new green experiential tourism.
San Fun Group hopes that when we say “A Million Lives, a Million Dreams,” this vision will soon extend to a blooming and vibrant Tak.
